Hotel Ramada by Wyndham Katunayake Colombo International Airport Hotel

The rooms worked well for our family members, including one who uses a wheelchair. They were clean, spacious, and comfortable, though a little dated. Breakfast was the one letdown. It cost $8 USD per person, and nearly all the bain-maries seemed almost empty. We were glad we booked the Ramada by the airport for our Sri Lanka trip. We arrived late, so it was a relief to be met at the gate by someone from the hotel. The drive back took maybe 15-20 minutes. The large compound and elegant reception put us at ease. Our locally based family members joined us for a tour starting the next day. I'd book this hotel again on a future trip.

The hotel staff were good and responsive, which was the one bright spot. We booked a Deluxe room, but the carpet was dirty and smelled, basic amenities were missing, and the shower was broken. The hotel is very poorly maintained. Wyndham is a chain, and we expected a decent hotel for a short stay. This definitely wasn't what we expected. We're very unhappy and disappointed.

The airport transfers were a big reason I booked here, and both went smoothly. The pickup was complimentary, even though we arrived very early, and the driver was waiting with a sign. The drop-off was prompt and cost about 4500lkr, which I was fine with. The staff were very nice and helped with our luggage. Getting a reply about transport beforehand was harder: I emailed about three times, so try all their email addresses if you need an answer. We stayed two nights, once on arrival and again before departure. The place was moderately clean, about a 10-minute drive from the airport, though there were odd hallway smells and some stains on the sheets and carpet. It feels like a typical Wyndham-esq property that badly needs a revamp. I booked with Wyndham points and hadn't noticed the reservation was for one person. They charged about $13 USD to add the second person. Since the points redemption was the same for one or two people, I hadn't expected that, and it was a first for me. Make sure the reservation has the right number of guests before you arrive.

We went to Ramada Katunayake for dinner with the family on the 31st night and left very disappointed. There was no menu, and hardly any food to choose from, basically rice and potatoes. For what we paid, it felt like a complete waste of money. The service was poor, and nobody seemed concerned about the guests. We should at least have been treated kindly and served a proper meal. The food and service left a very negative impression, and I can't recommend this hotel. I hope they take responsibility so other people don't have the same unpleasant experience.
