Aussie Swiss Beach Resort

The hotel has a few sun beds on a long, quiet beach, about 4 km in length. There’s one ugly high rise apartment construction, but luckily it’s far away. A tuk tuk gets you to the busier Mirissa beach in a few minutes. I was there at the end of February 2024. My sea view room was spacious, with high ceilings, local Sri Lankan wood carvings, and a furnished balcony with a lovely view. It had air conditioning, fast internet, a fridge, kettle with tea and coffee, TV, safe, hair dryer, beach towels, and racks for drying towels and swimwear. The bed was comfortable and had mosquito nets. The clean, roomy shower and toilet had a rain shower, good pressure and enough hot water. The corridor air conditioning units and water pump were noisy enough to keep you awake. Rubber pieces between the outdoor units and the L-rack could help cut the noise. Breakfast included real tea, not bags, coffee, fruit and juice, an egg dish such as an omelette, toast, butter and jam. I also enjoyed a tasty, generous curry dinner at the hotel. One small drawback was that the waiter didn’t speak English, though he was very service oriented.

There were so many problems that the property didn’t feel like a properly functioning hotel, and it was by far the worst place I stayed during two weeks of travel in Sri Lanka. We stayed two nights and had cold showers both times. There was no kettle, hair dryer, phone or TV in the room. To get the Wi-Fi password, you had to ask staff through QR codes. The balcony door has no outside handle, so once you’re out there you can’t shut it and bugs get in. The window shades don’t pull all the way down without a struggle with the strings. The hotel also tried to charge 3% extra for credit card payment.

The staff were always ready to help, and the location was perfect. Breakfast was freshly made and delicious, and the masseuse was wonderful. I’d definitely return!
