The hostel felt scattered and poorly organized, with rooms in separate places and no kitchen. Our room was noisy even early in the morning, and there were insects inside. We had paid extra for the “standard 3-bed family room ensuite” listed on Hostelworld, but were shown a room with one queen bed instead. When we pointed out the booking, they said all the rooms were the same and offered to add one small bed. We didn’t get the family room we’d paid for, and the stay didn’t meet our expectations.

The food was wholesome, authentic, and amazing. Manju is a gem. The rooms could use some improvement, though they’re fair for the price. Even if you don’t stay, go for the food.

The host brings such a kind, cheerful energy and is always ready to help. The toilets and showers were clean and worked perfectly, and Mirissa Beach is only a short walk away. The room air conditioning could be better, but the rest was spot on. Hostel First Mirissa is a great budget stay, especially for backpackers.

The owners are warm and friendly, and they make inexpensive, homely meals. The hostel is close to the beach and is being renovated, with a lot of the work already finished.
