Corundum Breeze Negombo

Corundum Breeze was a great place to unwind. The apartment and pool area had a beautiful view, and the pool itself was clean, well kept, and had a lovely feel. The location is right in central Negombo, near the beach and main spots, yet still quiet. The apartments are new, modern, fully equipped, and comfortable, with everything feeling thoughtfully arranged for short or longer stays. The food was decent, and there are plenty of good places to eat nearby. It would suit families, couples, small groups, or a celebration. I’d definitely come back.

The one thing going for this hotel is its convenient location for Bandaranaike Airport. Our stay from Jan 1 to Jan 2, 2026, based on the reviews, was a disaster, and the location didn’t make up for the poor standards. The bathroom and toilet were filthy, untidy, and smelled terrible, including a dirty toilet seat that clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. The receptionist said basic bathroom amenities couldn’t be provided. The landline was disconnected and Wi-Fi didn’t work at all. The rooms were noisy and not soundproof, and we couldn’t rest properly before our flight, which caused stress and inconvenience. Cleanliness and basic maintenance seemed neglected, and staff need to take responsibility.

It was fine, though the apartment we stayed in felt dated, and I wouldn’t call it four-star. They gave us just one key, which was awkward with two adults and two kids when we wanted to split up.

Our first room, at AUD $160 a night, was old, run-down, and poorly maintained, with broken lights and cleanliness problems. The hotel feels like it’s being operated on a very limited budget, while charging rates similar to proper 4-5 star hotels nearby. We’re still staying here, and I don’t usually leave reviews, but the value just isn’t there for the price. Nearly everything booked through the hotel costs two to three times what local providers charge, and even small changes brought unexpected extra costs. If you’re travelling with Intrepid, I’d suggest arranging your own accommodation before the tour. This hasn’t been the standard we expected.
