Sunrise City Palace

The free breakfast was delicious both mornings, and we really appreciated the offer of an airport transfer. My dad and I stayed at sunrise city palace for two nights. The people running the place were kind, helpful, and so accommodating that we felt at home straight away. Our room was clean and comfortable, just what we needed. Thanks so much for having us, we hope to come back soon! ❤️

Denish and his family are such good people. We started our Sri Lanka bicycle trip after spending our first two nights there, then came back for the last two nights before leaving. They kept our backpack and bicycle box safe for the whole month. Denish picked us up at the airport when we arrived and took us back when we left the country, both times for free. The place is a five-minute walk from the train station and close to a big supermarket. They also served a really good traditional Sri Lankan breakfast. Highly recommended.

The free airport transfer was the only good part for us. The room was horribly uncomfortable and the surrounding area was very dirty. It was extremely hot, with only a loud fan that kept us from sleeping. The towels smelled of barbecue smoke and were a disgusting yellowish color. There was also a strong mold smell, so anyone with asthma should stay away. Practically a disaster, and the worst accommodation in srilanka. We’d been promised a free ride to the airport. At 3am, the owner said his tuk-tuk had no lights and he had booked a car himself through Uber. It was actually just a very old car. He said he’d spent money on it, so he wouldn’t give us the packed breakfast we’d paid for and had been promised. We’d already given him extra money before he told us we couldn’t have the breakfast. I hope that money goes toward cleaning supplies, because the place needs a thorough cleaning before guests are brought in. Better English would also help him communicate with guests when there’s a problem with something they’ve paid for.

Our host family was so welcoming that we felt right at home. The room was very clean, and the big terrace out front was a lovely place to relax. Breakfast was included and really good. This was our first night in Sri Lanka. Our host picked us up from the airport, then drove us to the bus when we were leaving. We’d definitely recommend staying here.
