I arrived at the gate to find the hostel closed, despite having confirmed the rooms by calling the owner. He hadn’t answered my calls the day before or that morning. He then sent me to his friend’s hotel, which shocked me. After seeing horrible reviews there about money being stolen, I didn’t trust the recommendation. I had to spend ages checking nearby hotels by tuk tuk and pay extra, which was a huge nuisance. The owner said there’d been no electricity for 2 days, but never told me about the problem or called to explain the change. He was disrespectful on the phone and completely unhelpful. I wanted to give 0 stars. Negative marks.

We spent 2 nights here and had a great time. The attendant was cooperative and great, and even made breakfast himself. The beds and washrooms were clean, and lockers were available. The balcony view is stunning. It’s a bit far from town, but you can walk there in 30 minutes and enjoy the lovely views along the way. Recommended for all types of travelers.

We spent two nights at The Hi Lanka Hostel, tucked right into nature. The owner was kind and helpful, and in the evenings everyone got together for drinks. It felt like a peaceful place to stay.

The garden and forest views were lovely, and there’s a flat yard and rooftop if you feel like doing yoga. It’s about a 10 to 15 minute walk into town. The place is basic but clean, with good people around and a nice place to sleep. Nothing spectacular, though I’m not sure this town has spectacular budget lodging anyway.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I called ahead and got there around 20:00, then waited over an hour for someone to check me in. They put me in a dorm next to the kitchen and sitting area, where a group of drunk local people were making a lot of noise. Loud music kept playing until at least 23:00, and the atmosphere felt disrespectful. The guy running the place was rude, some facilities were broken, and there was no hot water. I left at 23:00 to find somewhere else. Going out to look for a place in the middle of the night was uncomfortable, but it was still better than staying at Hi Lanka that night.
