Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya

The Christmas buffet was wonderful, with a huge variety of food and a lovely table arrangement. You could tell a lot of effort had gone into it. Later, the live music helped keep the end of the day relaxed, and the staff were polite and helpful. We stayed at the Grand Hotel for a few nights over Christmas with our family. The high tea was a nice, calming experience, and the violin music in the background gave the place a royal feel.

The Christmas dinner is a real highlight, with festive decorations and an atmosphere that made it feel as if we were in a European country. The Thai Restaurant also deserves a special mention. It may be the best Thai dining experience in Sri Lanka. The food overall is excellent, though there's still room to improve. This was our third Christmas visit in a row, and the service and overall offering keep getting better each year. The staff are warm, attentive, and always available, which makes every stay feel special. Everything comes together in a way that lives up to the name “Grand.” It's a timeless hotel that keeps raising the bar. Highly recommended.

The garden was one of the most beautiful we've seen, full of flowers, roses, and huge trees. Just sitting there felt like bliss. Breakfast was another highlight, with an amazing range of local and international choices, including vegan options, gummy bears, chocolate truffles, fresh coconut water, and really interesting pickled fruit. I'd set aside at least an hour to enjoy it without rushing. The room was on the small side but comfortable, with a nice carpet. The bathroom had plenty of space and a large counter, and the Wi-Fi was okay. Staff were friendly and helpful. While they sorted out check-in, they had us sit in a lounge and served us tea. The pool is quite small, and you need to reserve by calling from your room. I swam three times and had it to myself twice. The bathrobes were nice, though the ones in the room were too small for us. I called reception and they brought larger ones within minutes.

The garden was lovely, and the hotel's old-fashioned feel suited the cool, relaxing weather. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good, too. It's in a great location for getting around and seeing nearby places. We had a really nice stay and would recommend it as a place to relax and enjoy your time.
