Amelia Resort

We lasted less than an hour at Amelia Resort. After looking more closely at the security reviews and seeing how isolated it was, with poor Wi-Fi and no network coverage, I felt especially uneasy as a woman. My husband and I went back to explain politely that we were leaving. The staff argued, raised their voices, and insisted on full payment, even though the property was empty. It was past midnight and the area felt unsafe, so we paid and left. We had booked one night because the listing showed four stars and the reviews were mixed, and we hoped it might be better than it sounded. But from arrival, the place felt uncomfortable. We were the only guests, there were groups of men drinking outside, and there were no women among the staff or guests. There was no wall clock, no security camera anywhere, and no inside latch or safety lock on our room door. It was one of the most unsettling stays I’ve had. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially for solo women or couples. It felt isolated, lacked proper security, and seemed hard to call for help from. Please be cautious if safety and basic comfort matter to you.

The staff were unfriendly and unprofessional, and when we raised issues they played them down instead of taking them seriously. That made an already uncomfortable stay more frustrating. The rooms smelled strongly unpleasant and cleanliness fell below even basic standards. The sheets and towels didn’t seem properly cared for, and the bedrooms looked neglected. Basic hospitality expectations weren’t met. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to travelers, particularly foreign visitors looking for safe, clean, dependable accommodation. Management needs to address upkeep, service, and standards.

The room and bedding weren’t clean or well cared for, and even basic hotel necessities were missing. Food and facilities also fell short of acceptable standards. Reception and hospitality were especially poor, and the staff were my biggest concern. Sigiriya Amelia Hotel was unhygienic and badly maintained. After this experience, I wouldn’t recommend staying here, including for foreign visitors. Management needs to improve cleanliness, service, and guest safety.

The rooms smelled, reception and service were poor, and the staff were no help. We came to SL for a vacation and picked this place based on mostly positive reviews. From arrival through checkout it was a horrible stay, and we felt misled. We booked three rooms. The A/C in the family room shown in the attached photo didn’t work; we complained several times, and although other rooms were available, nobody moved us. No one carried our bags, so we had to haul them up three flights of stairs. There’s no elevator. The cutlery was dirty and unw washed, so we had to clean it ourselves. If we wanted to do everything ourselves, we could have booked an airbnb. We ended up cutting our visit short because the stay was so bad. The bathrooms smelled, and there were frogs in them. Watch out for personal stories slipped in. I could list more, but never again. Avoid at all cost. Basic minimums weren’t met. And the responses from the hotel are unprofessional too. Nobody wants to take your hotel down, we just want better service and value for our money. You’re basically robbing people of there money. Please improve your services.
