Lagoon Boutique Hotel

We had a pleasant stay, with a clean pool, friendly staff, and a nice room with A/C and a hot shower. The beach was close too. There were a few small things that could've been better: the mini fridge smelled moldy, the toilet seat was a bit dirty, there wasn't a trash bin anywhere, and there were lots of mosquitoes. We parked our rented tuktuk at the entrance, and overnight someone forced open the glove box. Nothing was inside, so nothing was stolen, but the lid was broken. There's a camera at the entrance, but staff couldn't show us the footage and didn't seem very concerned. A bit odd.

The cloudy pool put us off swimming altogether, and the rooms felt run-down. The bed kept making noise, lighting was inadequate, hot water was unreliable, the fridge was moldy, and there was no TV despite the booking photos. The shower wasn't separate from the rest of the bathroom, so water got everywhere. Housekeeping never came during our stay. Breakfast was easily the worst we had in Sri Lanka: one toaster for about 20 people, eggs coming out every ten minutes in portions for just two diners, and fruit taking up to an hour. Service was very poor too. Three days after check-in we still didn't have all our clean bathroom towels. For the five of us, we only got two or three pool towels, often still wet. I was really disappointed.

The staff were always ready to help, and even let our group check out much later so we could enjoy the stay a little longer. We also loved the breakfast, a delicious Sri Lankan spread. Rooms, toilets, pool and shared areas were clean and tidy, and the room was a good size. There were quite a lot of mosquitoes in the rooms, so I think the hotel should look into that, though I'm not sure what can be done. The property could use some renovation too, with repainting and other improvements needed in several areas. We still enjoyed our stay.

The worst holiday stay I've had. We booked the whole villa for a weekend on a full-board basis and called the manager a couple of times to confirm the date. When we arrived, nothing had been prepared. They wouldn't accept responsibility or return even 50% of the advance payment. Service was very poor. The villa has no road that vehicles can access, so we had to walk along a path with lots of garbage at the side. The rooms were dirty and full of bugs, and the pool wasn't maintained or cleaned, with bugs and insects in it too.
