Rest House Tangalle

Didn't stay at the rest house, just stopped for lunch. The staff were very attentive, and the portions were generous. They served a huge spread of curries, all properly and traditionally seasoned. A really nice place to eat lunch away from the touristy area.

We found Rest House Tangalle peaceful and relaxing, with lovely ocean views and easy access to the beach. It's a calm place to unwind, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and well maintained. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food was served fresh and tasted good, with nice local options. It also felt like good value for money. I'd definitely recommend Rest House Tangalle for a quiet, comfortable stay in Tangalle.

I only had dinner there, didn't stay overnight. They add a 10% service charge, though their prices are still better than at other tourist restaurants in town. The food was very, very spicy. I asked for “little spicy,” the waiter said “medium spicy,” and it still came out extremely hot. There were lots of bugs around.

From the terrace, you get a nice view across the dockyard, and there’s an old Guinness clock behind the reception desk. The hotel has a lovely old colonial atmosphere, in a Dutch building dating to 1774. The rice and curry was the best we had in Tangalle, though it’s only served from noon to 3pm. After that, the menu is limited. Lion beer was 750rp.
