The balcony was a lovely place to spend time. With dense greenery all around, we spotted 18 bird species while sitting there, and a couple of small monkeys came to perch nearby. Our spacious third-floor room and balcony were immaculately clean, and Lasanthi and the very smiley Dinasha gave us a fabulous welcome. The guesthouse is tucked up a little driveway, far enough from the road to feel peaceful and away from downtown Mirissa’s bustle. It’s only a couple hundred metres from the beach, with local shops and cafes nearby. The main strip is about 1.5 km long and starts almost as soon as you leave the driveway. There’s a small alley almost opposite the property that leads to the beach. With goggles and a snorkel, you can see turtles almost right away, or rent gear from the friendly beach guys for 500 rupees an hour. Seeing turtles is almost guaranteed. We had a fabulous three-day stay.

This place is tucked away, and I had some of the best sleep of my trip here. It’s very close to Coconut Tree Hill and an easy walk to the city centre. Kamara was incredible and made me feel like part of his family. He even helped me with my TukTuk. Thanks, Kamara, I hope you and your family keep prospering.

The room at Minara Guest House was comfortable and clean, and the bathroom worked fine even though it could use some updating. It’s a little outside the center, which made things quiet, but the beach and restaurants were still easy to reach. The staff were genuinely helpful and friendly, and having a scooter to rent was a handy extra. Good value, and I’d stay again.

The owners were kind and sorted out everything for us, including a safari. Breakfast cost extra, but it was generous and delicious. The rooms were spotless and the bed really comfortable. We stayed in a fan room, which suited me, though it might not suit everyone. It’s tucked into the jungle, with monkeys, birds, and all those jungle sounds, just a minute from the noisy road and close to everything. Snorkeling is only about three minutes away.

Getting to Turtle beach and coconut tree hill takes hardly any time, just cross the road and you’re nearly there. This was my second visit and I’m just as happy with it again. The rooms are very good for such a cheap price, and the breakfast tastes great too. I’d recommend the egg hoppers.
