Raintree

The quiet setting was a real part of the appeal. Raintree Retreat is about a 30-minute drive from Sigiriya and a little removed from the main sights, but we were glad to come back to such peaceful surroundings after being out. Our stay was comfortable and the property was well maintained. The hosts made us feel at home from arrival and helped arrange a scooter, shared safari suggestions, and recommended local food to try. On checkout day, they even let us stay as long as we wanted until it was time to continue our journey, which was very thoughtful. This was our first full stay in Sri Lanka and one of the best choices we made on the trip. A relaxed getaway with genuine hospitality, highly recommended.

Wildlife and quiet were the heart of this memorable glamping stay. We saw lemurs, grey faced langurs, horn billed birds, cranes, monitor lizards, turtles, fish and frogs, and the dogs and cat were lovely too. Nearby hikes took us to a reservoir and through the local neighborhood, with beautiful chanting often coming from the local monastery. The owners are a wonderful couple and the staff were attentive. Our cabin could use some upgrading, but the A.C. was good. There was no Wi-Fi. Thanks again for such a special way to experience Sri Lanka’s nature.

Wildlife was right around us, including two rare species we spotted from the doorstep, the purple faced langur and Ratufa macroura. The people here were kind and always ready to help. We really enjoyed our stay.

We loved sitting out on the terrace in the mornings and evenings, watching tortoises, monitor lizards, hornbills, kingfishers, monkeys and even a giant squirrel. The accommodation is tucked into peaceful surroundings full of wildlife. The hosts are friendly, keen to help, and wonderful cooks. This is exactly the sort of hidden gem we hope to find when we travel. If you get the chance to stay, go for it!
