Kumbuk Tree House

The garden was full of lovely flowers and plants, laid out with a really pleasant design. There are two suites, one above the tree and another below, looking out over the river. Sleeping up above the river on a rainy night made this tree house my best memory from my recent trip to Sri Lanka.

The room’s location was fantastic, but the river water was very dirty and stagnant. We struggled to communicate because the host didn’t speak English well. When I said I’d pay by card, he got extremely frustrated and insisted on cash. We ended up going to another hotel nearby to make the card payment. The safari contact they gave us was also significantly more expensive than other options in the area.

Saman has put so much love into the treehouses and garden. The place has a calm, almost magical feel, and he’s incredibly kind and welcoming as a host. The treehouse itself is my dream come true. I built them for my children and when I was a kid, but this one is beyond anything I imagined, solidly built over the river with real artistry and imagination. If you love nature, you must come. It’s truly special.

At night you can hear the sounds of nature, so light sleepers might want earplugs ;) The room was clean, with a great river view and good WiFi. The owner was really friendly and packed us breakfast for our safari. The garden is beautiful. Strongly recommend staying here :)
