Casa Tartaruga was lovely, with a roomy layout, big balcony, comfortable bed, effective air conditioning, and a strong hot shower. It’s brand new, and the construction and fitout were much better than what we usually saw in Sri Lanka. It was the best room of our 18 days in the country. We didn’t try the standard rooms in the other buildings. The pool is small and shallow, tucked beside reception, with nowhere to sit. We didn’t use it, and didn’t see anyone else in it either. The hotel’s surrounding facilities feel old and tired, and the view from our room was over some shabby roofs on neighboring buildings. The beach location is great, just off the main road, with lots of cafes and restaurants a short walk in either direction. There are plenty of dogs on the beach, but they weren’t aggressive. One barked in the early hours, and random fireworks each night also kept us awake. Still, we had a nice stay.

Breakfast was a great inclusion, with a delicious spread and lots of choices. We booked two standard rooms, both clean, comfortable, and equipped with the basics. There are deluxe options too if you want more luxury. The location is just right, on Unawatuna Beach and near winding streets full of shops, cafes, and restaurants. The staff were amazing, welcoming, friendly, and very accommodating. We’d definitely stay again. Thanks, team Tartaruga.

The calm, laid-back feel at Tartaruga Beach makes it easy to spend a peaceful day there, whether you're a couple, a family, or traveling solo. There are friendly locals and nice cafes right by the beach, too. The sand is golden, the water is clear, and it's lovely for swimming, relaxing, or catching the sunset. A great place to see Sri Lanka's coast in Unawatuna.

We stayed in the newer of the hotel’s two separate buildings, and it felt thoughtfully designed, modern, and built with real investment. Every room there has a full sea view, and the privacy made our stay feel peaceful and intimate. The hotel is right on a lovely beach that’s clean and fun for swimming, walking, or sitting and watching the water. It’s near everything but still quiet, which made it easy to slow down and disconnect from everyday life. Service was great, friendly, attentive, and there whenever we needed it. A relaxing, comfortable beach holiday.

The older rooms are very tired, damp, and disappointing. We had heavy rain, and the damp made paint flake off one wall. The washbasin was cracked, and the bathroom fittings were old and worn. I didn’t want to spend more time in the room than I had to. There are two kinds of rooms here, and the modern ones are lovely. Go only if you can be sure of getting one of those. The rest of the hotel was lovely: right on the beach, with waves to fall asleep to, attentive cheerful staff, and everything kept clean. Breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant and bar serve a wide range of good food. There were enough sunbeds, and food and drinks were brought to us on the beach.
