Chill House (Good Story)

The beach is directly accessible, and you can walk along it to the surf point. From our room we had an amazing view of the beach, and the interior was lovely. It was big, very clean, and the bed was spacious and comfortable. The owner and staff were super friendly, and the hotel had a great vibe. We felt lucky to find a room worth the price and would love to return. A couple of things to know: we had trouble locking the door, and the restaurant menu was overpriced. We paid a quarter of what our accommodation cost for a meal. The prices were in foreign currency and we miscalculated, which was our fault, but I’m mentioning it so other travelers can be careful.

The new owner is taking good care of guests and has a lot of work underway. Rooms are being repainted and redecorated, with air conditioning going into all of them. New bedding, towels, beach towels, and a kettle with tea and coffee in each room are already in. The owner is also replacing all the furniture and mattresses with new, top-quality ones. It sounds like the swimming pool is coming soon too. Villa Palena, his other place across the road, is being fully renovated as well. The top-floor rooms have a fabulous view, and room 6 has the best one. There’s a boat for river trips, and the boat guy is very good. Ask about a deal with a boat trip and free lunch. I can’t wait to see the place once all the work is done.

We came for two weeks and have extended for another fortnight. It feels like a home away from home, and we’ll certainly be back. The owners are great, and every staff member has been super friendly and helpful. Chill house puts on bonfire and fire work nights, and the cocktails and food are great. Our room had an amazing view, a hot shower, air conditioning and a comfortable mattress. It was super clean and right on the beach. It’s quiet, with no noise, but still in a perfect location. Highly recommend!

The owner and staff made this feel homely. They were consistently friendly and sorted out any issues quickly. They arranged our airport transfers, and having their own tuk-tuk was convenient. The Wi-Fi was strong enough for us to work from the room without problems. The restaurant food was simple but delicious. The hotel sits in a quiet spot near central Weligama, right on the beachfront. Our room was spacious and clean, with fresh furniture. The beach was dirty, though, and the large waves make it more suitable for surfing than swimming.
