Unbound Hostel

It had a nice atmosphere, with friendly people around and staff who were relaxed, helpful, and happy to chat. The hostel is new and clean, with air conditioning and really comfortable beds, and it felt like home. Street food and fruit are right at the end of the little road. If you want a local experience, this is a good place to go. I can only recommend it, you won’t regret it.

The staff were amazing and always ready to help, and the rooms were nice and the hostel clean. We spent three days at Unbound Hostel in Weligama. It’s about 50 meters from a quiet beach, while the busier beach areas and best surf spots are a 10 minute walk away. I’d definitely recommend staying at Unbound Hostel when you visit Weligama.

The best part is how close the beach is, just a minute on foot, with a beginner friendly surf spot right in front. It’s away from the very overcrowded Weligama main point, but still good for surfing. We stayed a couple of nights and had a great time. The place was clean and tidy, with affordable, air conditioned private rooms and a well equipped kitchen with a fridge for our things. Host Nuwan was friendly and attentive to our requests. On our last day we were even able to check out after 7.00 PM. He showed us the hostel rooms too, which looked comfortable and air conditioned, with all the basics. They were definitely our choice for next time, since they’re even cheaper. We’ll visit again!

The location is really good, which makes the poor service even more disappointing. We booked dinner for the night and breakfast the next morning, but got neither. Some of our group also had to wait outside for hours because the room wasn’t ready, even though we’d been told it was. The hosts didn’t seem to care about the guests. They just wandered around, smoking or on their phones. It’s a shame they spoiled our vacation experience.
