Royal Grand Hotel

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but brought the family to Cafe Royal for breakfast twice during our Monrovia trip. We arrived around breakfast and brunch time, when you could order from the menu or choose the buffet. The kids were ready for a change from traditional Liberian breakfasts, and enjoyed having American-style choices. The pancakes and omelets were good. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has plenty of space for small or large groups. Service was a little slow both times, but we were on vacation and didn’t mind much. We also bought coffee, donuts, and juice drinks at the Donut Bar inside the hotel. There was a nice selection, and the staff were very friendly. A really good experience, and I’d recommend it.

The restaurant food is good, and the $6 salad bar is good value. I haven’t stayed overnight, though I’d expect a high-quality stay. The lobby and toilets are beautiful, and having an Orange store and ATM on the grounds is handy.

I’ve stayed here several times over the last two years and haven’t been disappointed. The staff and services are great. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Liberia, West Africa.

The large rooms are clean, but the bathrooms are small. Service is mixed: some staff are kind and professional, while most aren’t. Breakfast needs improvement for a hotel rated five stars. I also stayed by choice in the hotel annex, which needs major work. The furniture needs attention, the windows don’t have blinds, and housekeeping is inconsistent. Smart TVs aren’t provided in every apartment. Management still seems to be a work in progress, and the security guards are so unfriendly that they make me want to leave.
