Amber Palace

The location was quiet and cozy, away from town but close to the beach. Breakfast was pretty good, with lots of vegetables and salads as well as pancakes, eggs, sandwiches, and other choices. But the service and “spa” were the worst parts. At check-in, our keys weren't ready, so we waited for a tech guy to prepare the key cards. The receptionist didn't explain breakfast times or where and how to use the spa. We asked about booking extra treatments and were told they weren't available. The receptionist was rarely there and didn't answer the phone. When we checked out, we waited 45 minutes and nobody came, so we left our keys in the room and went. Our room wasn't cleaned at all during our three-day stay, and the towels weren't changed. After check-in, we didn't see a single staff member. The service was extremely poor, and the place felt a bit like a ghost hotel. The spa is more like something you'd have at home than a hotel spa for lots of guests. There's a very small pool and three tiny saunas, each fitting about four people at most. I visited at a fairly quiet time and could find a sauna spot, but I can't imagine using them when the hotel is full. The area wasn't cleaned while in use, so there was water everywhere. The infrared sauna was cold, either broken or set too low, nowhere near sauna temperature. We paid around 150€ a night, and I felt what we got was worth at most 30€. It was very overpriced, and I won't return. There are definitely better spa hotels around.

A typical seaside holiday resort, and when I visited in September it was almost empty. The facilities were nice and the Baltic Sea setting beautiful, with endless sandy beaches. The staff did their best, though very few spoke English. Most of the guests seemed to be locals and Russian.

My room and the spa were clean and comfortable. I had a massage and facial, and the attendants were courteous, professional, and thorough. Andra at reception regularly goes beyond what's expected and does high-quality work. I'd go back and would definitely recommend the spa.

We had a good time and will probably come back someday. The staff were really nice and polite, and the food was well prepared. I'm a chef, so I'm a bit picky about that. The pool and bubble bath felt on the cold side, which made relaxing in them less pleasant. The balcony doors in the room also need fixing because they don't block enough sound.
