Vila Auska

The hotel sits in the forest, which gives it a nice nature feel, and the clean beach is very close. We had a wonderful stay. It's a fascinating Soviet-era hotel, with marble, some Japanese details, and art on the walls. It could use a little improvement, and they're working on that. The food was great, with gluten-free options and good meat and fish, and the staff were really nice. They could use more staff, though. It's very convenient for families, with a lovely warm pool and a big slide. A few more things for kids might be useful.

The location is excellent, right by the sea, but the building and rooms need repairs. Our room's AC didn't work, the sofa bed was broken, and one light was hanging by its wires. Some tiles were missing from the wooden terrace floor. Unfortunately, the staff don't speak English or any language besides Lithuanian, and the restaurant menu is only in Lithuanian :/

The building has distinctive heritage architecture and sits very close to the sea, but the stay had serious problems. There was no privacy with shared hallways and balconies; people could clearly see you in bed. Staff were awful, accusing us of not having paid after the first night even though the administrator had not been working, then vacuuming the corridors at 9.00am and banging on doors. The only gate to the sea is locked at 10pm, cutting off access to the beach. Internet only worked in the corridors, the hair dryer had insects in it, and there was no bottled water. It also isn't accessible for people with disabilities.

I only saw the place from outside, so I can't say anything about the rooms or service. It looked so run-down that I thought it might be closed, and it clearly needs renovation. The beach is very close, and the grounds are quiet and quite large, with flowers and trees, but they don't seem especially well cared for. The area is enclosed by a metal fence. Barbed wire has been removed and is now used by a nearby military zone. There are broken wooden watchtowers in the corners, apparently no longer in use. This place won't suit everyone. It felt pretentious and shabby at once, and I wouldn't consider staying here.
