Tomas Hotel

There are several markets nearby, and the hotel is quite close to the city center. It’s fine for a short stay, though the rooms aren’t very modern. The bathroom has a fantastic, big bathtub. They don’t provide shower gel or a safe box.

The staff are the real highlight at Hotel Tomas. They put a lot of care into making guests comfortable, including adjusting heating and cooling, linens, and amenities to suit individual preferences. The hotel is clean and quiet, and laundry service on the same day is free. It also has a great restaurant called Trys, where you should definitely order the steak, they do it right. Tomas is reasonably priced and sits just minutes from downtown and the airport, at a convenient crossroads for travelers going to or from Kaunas, Riga, Klaipeda/Nida, Vilnius, and beyond. For a night or even a season, it offers value, food, service, and amenities that hold up well against the bigger hotel chains. A hidden little gem.

It was clean, and that’s the best thing I can say about it. The breakfast wasn’t great, and showering meant holding the shower head above your head. Light came through the vertical blinds and kept interrupting my sleep.

The staff were friendly, the rooms were nice, and coffee was available free all day. With the windows open, road noise came in. Air conditioning would make that less of an issue, and would have earned the fifth star.
