Hotel Sieweburen

The hotel was comfortable and nice, and the location was good. At breakfast, a different man was much more polite, but our first interaction was unpleasant. The man in the restaurant told us we had two minutes to finish our coffee. We’d paid €8 for it and stopped drinking. Staff friendliness and a positive attitude matter most to customers, so the hotel should pay more attention to staff qualifications.

The restaurant is an easy choice for Sunday lunch when you have young kids, since it’s surrounded by greenery and next to a very nice playground with lots for children to do. We keep coming back for that reason, but probably wouldn’t otherwise. The food is old-school and traditional, with large portions, slightly above-average quality and high prices. Service can be frustrating. There’s no hello when you arrive, and you have to chase staff to let them know you reserved and to get a menu. But if you haven’t ordered by 13:45, they’re quick to hurry you because the kitchen closes at 14:00. The staff look unhappy to work there, especially the men. The woman smiled now and then.

The location is the only good thing about this hotel. The rooms were dirty and old: dust, hairs, stains, blood on the toilet seat, and furniture falling apart. My skin was itchy after one night. Breakfast was extremely basic, with no vegan options and just two tea choices, both in very old tea bags. Management didn’t seem to care about guests. We asked for oat milk three days in a row, and it was €2 for €160 per night. It’s sad that places like this exist and take advantage of people. The value for money is completely lacking.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. When there was a problem with our room, they even phoned us in the UK. The hotel is comfortable, clean, and has traditional, distinctive rooms. It’s just outside the city centre, with a kids’ playground right outside. Families meet there for a drink while the children play, which makes for a relaxed atmosphere. The beer was good, and we ate in the restaurant too, where the food was very good and reasonably priced. I’d definitely recommend it.
