Villa Santa Hotel

The forest setting brings plenty of birdsong, trees, fresh air, and quiet. It also means gravel paths, mosquitoes, and needing to be careful about leaving windows open in the evening. Villa Santa has the feel of a peaceful woodland retreat with the understated elegance of a boutique hotel. The bright, spacious rooms are simply and tastefully done, and many intentionally have no TV. Some buildings also lack air conditioning, which is common in the region but worth knowing if you're used to having it. The place is well worth the price. We especially loved the restaurant. Its menu is short, but the food is thoughtful, balanced cooking based on classics, with a creative touch and nothing overly fancy. There are vegetarian and vegan dishes, though that isn't the menu's main focus. The presentation is fun to look at, and the staff are warm and relaxed while still paying attention. Drinks include plenty of non-alcoholic choices and a good wine list. The dining room has large windows overlooking the scenery, bold commissioned art, and original chandeliers from the Riga Kempinski. Prices felt very fair for the quality. It's a subtle, serene, stylish place to unwind. Villa Santa's restaurant really is a gem, and the whole place has its own vibe. Hotel dining can be hit or miss, but this one was genuinely fantastic.

We had a wonderful time here. This is one of those fantastic hotels that really deserves a sixth star.

The staff were so welcoming and helpful, always willing to lend a hand. Villa Santa is comfortable, spotless, and well maintained, with a peaceful, relaxing feel. I'd highly recommend staying here when visiting Latvia.

The spa specialist was out of this world, and so was the restaurant food. Our room was OK, and the setting is quiet and romantic. I went with my girlfriends, but I'd happily return with my partner for a romantic getaway.
