The restaurant is the main reason I’d come back to Dikļi. The menu uses local ingredients and has some interesting flavor combinations. I’ve been twice in autumn and winter, and I’m planning to return in summer, when the restaurant moves to another room with a terrace. The Princess room is hard to justify at its winter price. It feels dated, with antique furniture, cracking ceilings, an uncomfortable old bed, noisy water pipes, and a bathroom where the water is either too hot or too cold. The dark, gloomy decor didn’t suit me either. I’ve stayed in three-star hotels with better rooms. My ratings: room 2/5, breakfast in bed 3/5, SPA 2/5, restaurant 4/5. I understand they’re planning a steam sauna and other SPA updates, which could improve that part. I gave the hotel 3 stars overall, and 4 only because of the restaurant.

Set in a quiet spot with a large garden, this manor is lovely both inside and out. It’s been beautifully restored and has lots of antique furniture. The staff were attentive, breakfast was good, and it’s a popular venue for events.

I remember this being a fantastic hotel, with high standards and great service, but it’s gone downhill. The mattress is old and hard, and there’s no mattress cover, which feels unhygienic. For a four-star hotel I’d expect complimentary water and basic bathroom items like a shower cap, shampoo, shower gel, and at least body lotion. Instead, there’s no water, and you have to buy things like a shower cap, conditioner, or body lotion at reception for €1. Am I supposed to know in advance that I’ll need to bring them?

The manor looks gorgeous, with an attractive park around it, and the setting is peaceful with a lovely countryside feel. Rooms start at 100 euros and are decorated in Empire style.

The lawns were great, and the bedroom had an interesting view of the sky. There was a fan for cooling, but the bed was very old and sagged in the middle.
