Hotel Gulbene

The room was a good size, the bed was comfortable, and the location worked well for us. It was good value for the price. There’s no air conditioning, so it gets hot in the room on warm days. During our stay, the shower drain was slow because of a small technical issue. We told the staff and hope a technician fixed it before the next guests.

Right in the city centre but in a quiet spot, with free parking outside and a very clean room. The price felt fair for a nice hotel. There wasn’t a kettle or tea or coffee in the room, though there’s a good restaurant next door with plenty of dishes, plus tea and coffee. The TV only had seven channels, but the free wireless was fast and worked well.

The rooms and washrooms were clean and well kept, and the hotel is easy to find on the main street. There’s no room service or breakfast, and smoking isn’t allowed indoors. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks are available. The reception staff speak only Russian and Latvian. By morning, I had skin irritation and redness after sleeping in the bed. It was distressing, and then the condition spread across my body, so I had to go to the hospital. I don’t know what caused it. It might have been bed bugs or bedsheets that hadn’t been washed properly.

I’d been travelling all day, so checking in and getting a room at 4am was easy. It’s a budget hotel, and the rooms are basic, but for the sleep I needed, it did the job.
