SUNSET Hotel

I was here with our choir in the 90s, and this place means a lot to me. I have many memories from that time. I adopted a little cat from this street near the hotel and took her to Ukraine. I called her Kristina, after the hotel owner, I think. If you know her, say hello from me in Ukraine.

The promenade is just a minute or two away on foot, and the beach takes about five minutes to reach. There’s usually enough parking. The free WLAN worked fine, and the smart TV let us use Netflix. The family apartment was set up well, with a king-size bed for the parents in one room and three single beds for the kids in the other. That gave us a chance to enjoy an evening while they slept next door. The room fridge was free to use, though it smelled unpleasant. We’d first planned a business trip, then decided to go around Riga and Jurmala with the family. We found this inexpensive hotel through Ryan Air and booked because of the photos, description, and price. It was okay, but nothing special. The poor insulation was a problem: rooms got cold quickly, and we could hear every step from the apartment above, which was annoying when trying to sleep after a long day. Basic things like a hair dryer were missing. The bathroom was only about 1.5 square meters. The shower worked well and the water stayed warm, but there was mold in the joints and corners. Staff didn’t speak English, which caused confusion and left us missing some details.

We had two adjoining rooms for six adults in a separate building behind the main one. From the outside, it looked dated, but the rooms were very nice, with good beds and a decent bathroom. Breakfast was good, just not extraordinary.

We had a lovely family stay at Sunset hotel. The owner was pleasant and very friendly, and there was private parking. The rooms were soundproofed, and the beach was only about 200 metres away.
