Agate Hotel

The restaurant was closed while we were there, but we found several other places to eat nearby, so dinner wasn’t an issue. We stayed a few nights last summer to see Riga and the surrounding area. The service was very nice, and the gentleman shared the country’s history and gave us lots of tips on places to visit, cheap parking, and where to eat. The rooms were okay, and the area was quiet. We were delighted.

The lobby and grounds are really nice, but this is a small hotel in a small city, so expect a basic economy room. It’s fine for a couple of days, though I’d choose a hotel in Jalgova for a longer stay. Definitely skip the breakfast. It costs 12 euros and is almost nothing.

The biggest problem was the noise through the walls. We could hear the next room’s alarm in the morning, and even their snoring, so I couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep. Bring earplugs. They also charge the full breakfast price for kids, which isn’t cool. The location is excellent, the staff are really friendly, the rooms are spacious enough, and the heating works very well. It’s a shame there’s no sound insulation between rooms.

We had a good stay. The staff were great, and the restaurant served a decent breakfast and excellent dinners. I was there with a group, and we could rent a spacious conference area. The rooms were small and not particularly well furnished, but they did the job.
