Mohammed was so hospitable, thank you. The rooms were great, especially the fantastic shower, and we got a warm welcome and good food. Auf wiedersehen!

The young people working in the garden and kitchen were polite. That was one of the few positives in an otherwise cold, unwelcoming stay. I don’t usually post negative reviews, but I feel I should share what happened so others can make an informed choice. The hotel’s biggest problem for me was the owner, who also manages it. He came across as dismissive and unwelcoming, and questions or requests were met with an unhelpful, almost hostile attitude. I didn’t feel that guest comfort mattered, or that there was any real effort to make guests feel at ease. After we’d been there two days, the A/C in one of my colleague’s rooms stopped working during a heatwave of 43°C. He asked the manager for help. The manager went into the room, opened the windows, switched off the lights, and said, “You can sleep now.” When my colleague said open windows with insects getting in wasn’t acceptable, the manager accused him of breaking the A/C. As we tried to work out what to do, a woman working with the manager joined the conversation and said, “We prefer two foreigners over all of you. You're just causing problems. We don’t need your money anyway.” She then bragged about their wealth. This was in response to a basic request to fix the A/C or move rooms. I found her remarks discriminatory and deeply disrespectful. The network connection was very poor, which may have been due to the hotel’s remote location, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work at all. There were occasional power outages too, though those mattered less to me than the way management treated us. The hotel might look nice from outside, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful stay with basic respect and decency. Reply to the owner’s response: The accusation that our group coordinated an attack on the hotel is completely unfounded. Our reviews were about genuine dissatisfaction with the service, not a personal issue. We weren’t told about any specific rules, and we didn’t break any. There were six of us, and only one person smoked. There were no no-smoking signs, and nobody told us smoking wasn’t allowed. We worked every day, left before 10 AM and returned after 2 AM. We didn’t party or behave inappropriately, and we were respectful with staff. Brief visits between men in the rooms were consensual and related to work. Your accusations rely on assumptions and come across as arrogant. The guest you mentioned was in a normal state, and his wasn’t the only room with a faulty A/C. On the day we arrived, a female guest asked to change rooms for the same reason. You told her, “If it’s on, it’s functional to me,” then offered another room for an extra 100dh/night. The pool was dirty. The owner himself said it was because of a sandstorm days before we arrived. We sat near the pool at night, around 12-1 AM, only because the rooms were hot and we were waiting for them to cool down. There was no working internet, as the owner confirmed. He even told us to write a letter to the regional chief, which made no sense. A café 1 km away had reliable internet. Honestly, consider getting satellite internet instead of blaming outside issues. Our booking was made through an agency, and we had no reason to make anything up. The feedback reflects our actual experience. Your comment on my reply was funny, but also sad and disappointing. You said you had screenshots of my older review that clearly showed I hadn’t edited it, only added a reply. Instead of dealing with the actual issues, you’re making this about me, which it isn’t. As I said, I have nothing personal against your hotel.

Mr. Mohamed listened to our suggestions, which I really appreciated. The staff were welcoming and always smiling, too. We had a lovely stay at Guitar Palace, a distinctive, peaceful and charming hotel. I’d definitely recommend it.

I had a really restful night at the guitar palace while cycling from Chefchouen to Meknes. The staff were friendly, and they take security seriously, so I felt very safe. It’s a genuinely unique hotel. Dinner here is well worth having. The food was fantastic, healthy, and made with ingredients grown in the garden. The owner is a gentleman. I hope I can come back in the summer sometime and use the pool.
