Omar was the highlight for me, a calm, kind, friendly gentleman who was there whenever I needed him. I loved this Dar, a house without a garden or water, and its location was brilliant for seeing Fes. It's just off a busy main street leading to the Medina. The rooftop is a lovely place to relax and hear the street activity below. It has two residents, the tortoises 😀. My room was ensuite, just off the upstairs roof, up a couple of narrow, beautifully decorated flights of stairs. It was clean, comfortable, and just right for me. Breakfast was more than enough, though it was mostly bread and jam. I would've loved some tomato or cucumber instead, since Moroccan vegetables are so tasty. Kind regards, Omar.

Hatim was kind and arranged a last-minute ride from the airport to the hotel, and he gave us helpful tips for visiting Fes. Omar looked after us wonderfully, even preparing Suhur at night because we were fasting the next day. We loved every detail of the food and service. Our room had air conditioning, which was great, and the hotel is very well priced for a spot right in the heart of the Medina on Talaa Saghira. If we come back to Fes, Dar Chourouk will be our first choice ❤️❤️

This has been our worst experience in Morocco so far. We arrived in the evening, and before we had even checked in, the guy tried to sell us tours to remote places like the desert. When we declined, he seemed disappointed and left after showing us to the room. The room clearly hadn't been prepared for new guests: there was lots of hair on unwashed blankets, and no towels or toilet paper. After that, we couldn't reach him. We were told breakfast would be served between 9:30 and 11, so we were puzzled when someone knocked at 8 to say it was ready. The worst part came around 10 pm, when road construction started right outside our window. Jackhammering went on until 4:30 am, and there was no way to sleep. It felt like a warzone. Around 9 am, construction inside the hostel started too. What bothered me most was the host's response. He wasn't understanding and was furious that we didn't want breakfast at 8. He said the road work wasn't his fault and would stop the next night anyway. His exact words were, “It's not my problem, you already paid in advance.” The stay was ruined by exhaustion, so although we had booked two nights, we were grateful to skip the second and move to a decent riad. That rescued the rest of our time in Fez. The next night, we walked past and the jackhammering was still going. An unpleasant stay, a sleepless night, unfriendly and lying staff, and attempts to upsell. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves about the facilities.

Hatif replied to me at the last minute about getting from the airport to the hotel and arranged a taxi. He explained more about how things work in Morocco, and Souraez made breakfast for me. If I come back to Fez, I'll return to the guesthouse.

The architecture, location, and hospitable staff make Dar Chourouk a real game changer, and the stories you'll take away are part of it too. Souarez and Hatim deserve credit for making guests feel right at home. I know where I'll stay on my next trip to Fès.
