Riad Gzira Fez

The staff were superb and friendly, and they managed my wife's gluten, onion, and garlic intolerances. Thank you for that. The location is good, though the riad sits down a rather creepy alley off the main Medina roads, where guys hang out at night. The main attractions are about a 10-15 minute walk away. We had the Sahara room, which needs some work: the shower drain was badly clogged, the room was dusty and musty, and the air conditioning leaked water. Fixing those issues would make the stay much better for future guests.

This historic riad in the Rcif area of Fez has comfortable rooms, helpful hosts, hearty breakfasts, and good cleanliness. It can feel a bit chilly in the colder seasons for people who are more sensitive to the cold. Still, we had a very pleasant stay, and I'd recommend it as a satisfying place to lodge in a city as chaotic as Fez.

The traditional food was tasty and generous, more than we could finish. Our room was spacious and clean, with hot water and decent water pressure, but the mattress was extremely hard, which some people might like and others might not. We only stayed one night, and our host, Sufyan, was great, very helpful, and everything a guest could hope for. He gave us a map, explained the POIs in the Médina, and was reachable around the clock for any requests.

The meals here were so good that we didn’t feel a need to find a restaurant, and I personally wouldn’t suggest wandering out at night since the souks aren’t great then. We spent two nights and felt completely at home, almost like part of the family. Jawad went out of his way to make sure we got the most from our stay, and the owner was very welcoming. A must-stay in Fes, we’d happily recommend it!
