Ibrahim and Mohammed run their own place in the desert, and we had a lovely time with them. The room was beautiful, the food delicious, and we shared music, laughter, and long, sweet conversations about life in the Sahara. They seem to love the area and want to share it with visitors, and the place felt honest and personal rather than like a big tour company. They arrange longer journeys by 4x4, on foot, or by camel themselves. When we wanted to head out, they found us Salaa, a knowledgeable English speaking guide who showed us special places we wouldn’t have found on our own. We camped at Erg Lihoudi, where we were the only ones there. It’s smaller and less developed than Erg Chigaga, and we had an incredible night under the stars. It was a real pleasure meeting Ibrahim and Mohammed at their handmade palace in the desert. For arranging things, calling Ibrahim on WhatsApp works best, rather than texting. French is his strongest language, though he’s learning English too.

The highlight was Mohammed taking me out in his 4x4 for a private overnight trip to a non-touristy dessert. It was amazing, and I’d suggest asking him about a trip like that instead of the touristic Erg Chegaga. The stay itself was really nice too, with lovely people, local music at night, and plenty of laughs. Cats kept interrupting breakfast, which was the one annoying part, but it could’ve been worse 😁.

We had such a warm welcome from Ibrahim and really enjoyed staying here. The trip to El Chegaga with Brahim and Mohammed was a particular treat. Their kindness, music, cooking, and way of doing things felt authentic, and discovering their culture and region was a huge pleasure and honor. It’ll stay in our hearts as a warm memory. Thank you so much, Ibrahim, Brahim, and Mohammed. We highly recommend the experience.

The owners speak French and English well, and you can have dinner and breakfast there if you like. They’re very friendly, and tours into the dessert are available at a good price. I liked being a little outside the City, where it’s quiet and you can see the Stars. I’d urge you to go!
