Htel Mandy

The place looked really pretty when we arrived, and the staff seemed nice. Our room had a TV and a couch, but there were several problems. There wasn’t a quilt, just blankets. I got a brown one and luckily didn’t use it, but my little brother did and ended up with lots of itchy red spots. He slept on the top bunk and also got bitten by bugs from the wall and bed. There was a lot of noise from outside, as well as from the air conditioning inside, which came on every 20 minutes. The room was still very cold. Breakfast had no choices, just traditional food, and we had to leave some because we couldn’t choose. There’s a little playground outside the dining area and a pool, but I wouldn’t recommend it for children in winter. It probably would’ve been better in summer. This might be okay for a three star hotel.

It’s a three star hotel, so keep your expectations modest. We stayed for a week and got the same breakfast every day. Better suited to a friends’ or group holiday, since the poolside bar stayed open with loud music until 12:30 a.m. daily.

The doorman wouldn’t let us in at 12:20 a.m., even though the bar usually stays open until 2. He said the door shuts at 12:15. He was rude and disrespectful, and I felt he was racist. While we waited outside, I saw him open the door for another car after its occupants gave him cash. If he’d simply explained that tips were expected at the entrance to bars in Morocco, I’d have been happy to give him something. A few minutes later, I changed my mind and wanted to book a room for the night. The receptionist came to the door and said the hotel was full without checking the system. He wouldn’t speak politely or give us a moment of respect. The staff were deeply unprofessional and disrespectful. I was about to call the police and file a lawsuit over what felt like racism. This was unacceptable, and the worst experience I’ve had since coming to Morocco.

There was usually nobody at reception, so it was hard to get help or information. During my stay at Hotel Mandy in Tetouan, the staff were rude and unhelpful throughout, making for a very disappointing visit. The hotel also misrepresented what it offered. They told us the restaurant had menu options that weren’t available, and the accessibility features they advertised didn’t exist. I wouldn’t recommend Hotel Mandy. The poor service and false advertising made the stay unpleasant.
