Rose Noire

The hotel itself is lovely, with lots of charming details. Dinner on the roof terrace cost us €20 each, though, far more than we paid anywhere else. The cook, who also prepares breakfast, was quite surly and unpleasant. Nearby Restaurant Douyria served excellent food with excellent service, and even with wine the cost came to about the same. Still, the stay was a nice experience.

The staff really came through for us. We arrived at 9 in the morning after a disastrous night bus from Casablanca, hoping only to leave our bags until check-in. Instead they brought us tea on the lovely terrace and gave us a room, so we could shower, sleep for a couple of hours, and still enjoy the rest of the day. We're very grateful. The building is a beautiful old traditional place, with big, cosy rooms and a great bathroom with a proper shower. We loved the interior and felt like we were living in a storybook. Breakfast was lovely too, with homemade bread baked fresh for us. We wished we could have stayed longer.

The rooftop was a lovely spot for buffet breakfast and watching pelicans nest. Staff made the place feel like a family home, and it was a great little retreat. Rose Noire is tucked away in the old medina, with an old sandstone house that feels like stepping back in time. Its rooms have a nostalgic, almost Game of Thrones chamber look, and the Berber, african and Jewish decorations make the place feel like a museum. It's a short walk to the Old Jewish Synagogue museum, The Taourirt Kasbah and rooftop restaurants. Parking is about 50m away, and you can arrange for a porter to help with bags.

It felt like walking into someone's home. This family run riad was one of my favourite places I've ever stayed, and everyone working there made us feel so welcome. We absolutely loved it.
