Riad Safi

We came here for my wife’s first riad stay in Morocco, while knowing it might not match the fancy places in Marrakech. We loved being in the medina beside the main pottery shops. It’s a great spot for exploring the old medina, heading up to the Corniche, or going down to the beach, though in Asfi everything is fairly close. Some people may find the walk from Bab Chaaba through the alleyways daunting, especially at night. The hosts were fantastic. They welcomed us at the car park, gave us company when we wanted it, and left us space when that suited us. We also enjoyed trying a little Darija, and they were very patient. The riad has a nice atmosphere and an open rooftop terrace, and breakfast was so generous we couldn’t finish it. By Western standards, and I realize how arrogant that perspective can be, the room is basic, around a 2 to 3 star standard. The bathroom left something to be desired: a very rustic shower, a window without a curtain that people walking through the riad could see into, just a basic soap, and what we guessed was a bin that wasn’t really big enough for what was needed. There wasn’t a bin in the room either. We’d seen enough in earlier reviews and photos to know what to expect, and none of that put us off. We appreciated the warm welcome and would return if the price were right. We understand Asfi accommodation may not be comparable with cities elsewhere in the country that attract more tourists.

Comfy mattresses and really warm, friendly people made this a great place to rest. It was our favorite riad on our Morocco bike trip.
