Taghazout Surf Planet

For a last minute arrival, this was a decent basic two-bedroom flat. The people running it were easygoing and nice, and we didn’t have to hand over a deposit or passport. They also cleaned the place quickly for us when we arrived at short notice. Still, there could have been more care put into the place. The rest of it felt shabby, though it would have been easy to make it more welcoming. The room had empty candle holders by the bed, so reading meant using the big light right in our faces until we bought candles at the corner shop. A few candles in a drawer would have been a simple, thoughtful touch. One pillowcase had a speck of old blood on it, and we were only given two single sheets for a double bed. The shower wasn’t great, but it had been cleaned before we arrived and the water was nice and hot. The WiFi was on and off. I liked the hard bed, and there were enough throws to keep me warm despite there being no heating, which is common in Moroccan hostels. The kitchen was very basic: a two-burner gas hob covered in foil, and a fridge whose door came off completely when you opened it. The owner was nice. It seems like a family business, with a surfshop and a newer hostel up the mountain too. That one is much more modern, but out of the way.
