Occidental Tanger

I liked the quiet atmosphere and the view of the pool from my window. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was very clean, and the staff were nice. It’s a large hotel with a good breakfast menu, and you can walk to nearby activities, like I did when I went to RR Ice restaurant. A very good choice in a beautiful city, no complaints.

We arrived very late because of train delays, but the attentive female staff still brought us food even though the buffet was about to close. The rooms also had kettles and bottled water, which was a really pleasant first for me during our time in Morocco. The place was clean and had recently been refurbished, with everything working perfectly. Really good value for money.

The hotel looked nice, clean, and attractive, but we were disappointed that we couldn’t use the pool because it had a fly infestation. Staff weren’t very hospitable, and they didn’t mention that the beach was within walking distance. When we asked what was nearby, the receptionist said nothing was local and that we’d need a taxi, though we later found walkable places ourselves. Most staff seemed unable to understand or speak English, and they could smile more, since they looked like they were being forced to be there. Breakfast was cold, repetitive, and had little choice.

The restaurant and bar downstairs were nice, with free snacks and beer at moderate prices for Morocco. It’s a decent option for one night, but bring earplugs. The hotel felt more like a strong three-star than a four-star. Reception had a long line, and check-in took far too long. Our room had an odd bathroom setup, with the sink in the room and the shower behind a glass door. There were no towels when we arrived, so we had to ask. The walls didn’t block much sound, and we could hear everything next door.
