Riad Benyara

We liked how peaceful it was, even with cafes and restaurants just around the corner. The rooftop has a sunny terrace and a small pool that was a welcome extra. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast came with traditional bread, egg, coffee, and condiments. We also had dinner there one evening, the Moroccan couscous was good. Two very comfortable nights in a place full of character. Highly recommended.

The dinner bill was the one bad part: we paid 200 MAD (€19) for two soups, a salad, and tea, which felt far too expensive for what we received. The rest was fine. The rooms were clean and decent, the accommodation was lovely in the medina, and breakfast was good. I'd avoid eating dinner there, or ask the price first. We learned that the hard way.

The pool was clean and a nice way to cool off on a hot day. The riad is tucked in a back alley off the main road into town, where children are often playing and happily greet you. Inside, the building is beautiful and the rooms are great, with air conditioning. The mattress is pretty hard, and the shower takes a few minutes to heat up. The staff are lovely. One night the owner made a fantastic vegetable tajine for a small price. It was the best of the many I've tried so far, with a nice mix of ingredients.

It's a good value for a comfortable, quiet stay right in the busy town. You can hear birds, the breeze moving through the riad's palm tree, and children playing outside. The riad is in a little lane off the main roads, right in the heart of the medina, and close to a souk and the coach station for excursions. After a trip, the roof terrace is a lovely place to unwind. The rooms are clean and full of authentic details, and breakfast is tasty and filling, with fresh bread.
