Etoile des Gorges

The location made it easy to get out hiking and climbing in the canyon, and the price was very affordable. When the air conditioner in our booked room wasn’t working, the staff quickly moved us to a larger room with AC. They did everything they could to make us comfortable and handle our requests. We’d definitely stay again.

We expected to stay four days at Etoile des Gorges and somehow ended up there for two weeks. Everyone was so welcoming, and it felt like home. The Auberge is right beside the rocks, which is perfect for climbing, and we met lots of other climbers. There’s a really nice community. Breakfast came with the stay and was almost too much. Every day there was also a surprise dinner for climbers, with a starter, main course, and fruit for 7€ per person. We got to try different traditional Moroccan dishes. The people working there were the best part. Majid was so open and welcoming, genuinely interested in guests, and happy to tell us about Berber culture. I’ll always remember our time there, and I’d encourage climbers to go.

The rooftop terrace had beautiful views, and outside it felt as if the canyon began right there. The restaurant's dinner was excellent, too. Our room was only functional, with an odor issue, and it got pretty noisy at night. Even with those drawbacks, we really enjoyed the stay thanks to the setting and food. The hotel is north of Tingier and well placed for visiting the gorge and nearby nature.

We had lunch here and it was awful. The vegetable couscous had no salt and tasted terrible, while the kefta tagine was far too salty. It seemed like the cook had salted the tagine twice and forgotten the couscous. When we mentioned it, the waiter was very rude and told us, “I don’t cook, go inside the kitchen and say.” Avoid this place, it felt like a scam.
