The employee, a kind elderly lady, was the only bright spot. The owner was extremely rude and unpleasant, and simply couldn’t function as a host. Best stay away. I booked a room with him in a WhatsApp chat after seeing the photos in the gallery on his website. Everything looked fine, and we agreed on €23 per day. When I arrived last Saturday evening, I was shocked to find the balcony completely blocked except for a tiny opening at the side. See photos and videos. This had been deliberately hidden from me. It wasn’t something you could tell from the shiny photos, and he hadn’t mentioned it once. I protested, and he said all the other rooms were taken for a week. He also told me cleaning and changing the bed linen happened every 10 days. When he saw how shocked I was, he said, “okay, 7, between 7 and 10, no more than 10.” He then brought up a particular Montenegrin requirement that all foreigners pay for their obligatory registration. That’s not his fault, but it’s the fault of the country as a whole. Still, if he knew about it, why not warn me beforehand? Over the next few days, whenever I said he should’ve told me about this requirement, or that I wouldn’t have come had I known about the balcony, he dismissed me or got aggressive. He said I should’ve studied all the intricacies of Montenegrin law before coming, and that he was already giving me a big discount for a long stay. I’d planned to stay for 2½ months. He acted as if I had no right to complain about anything, including bed linen being changed only once every 7-10 days, no more than 10, and yelled at me for setting the air conditioner to a low temperature because the energy cost him so much. I’ve stayed in many guesthouses, inns, bed-and-breakfasts, villas and pensions, and never in my life met a host like this. On Tuesday evening, I politely messaged him about what was bothering me and said I thought I’d better leave on Saturday, after a week there. The next day, he told me to leave Thursday morning instead and warned me not to send him another message about the balcony or anything else, or he’d call the police to find out “who I really am.” I eventually concluded that I was dealing with an insane individual who was mentally unwell, so I checked out the following morning. Do not stay at his place.
