The island’s natural setting is hard to forget, and the beaches have a lovely mix of wild rocky coves and more arranged areas with loungers. I also liked that seagulls still have a protected natural habitat here. Inside, the design feels calm and considered, and the wellness and spa spaces follow a holistic approach to relaxation and balance, with science-backed methods. Banyan Tree staff were warm and attentive, often seeming to anticipate what was needed. The whole stay reflects a thoughtful commitment to sustainability and mindful luxury. Mamula Island exceeded every expectation, and I can’t wait to return.

The team went all out to make our stay fantastic. The place is beautiful, the staff are caring and friendly, and the spa was amazing too.

It was a quiet, exclusive-feeling stay, helped by there being only a few rooms on the island. The views of ocean and mountains were incredible, and the attentive, professional staff made everything easy. Breakfast was included and very good, with especially nice specialty coffee and smoothie choices. Lunch and dinner were tasty, generous portions, and fairly priced. Our room was spacious, clean, and well furnished. The saunas, steam room, and halotherapy rooms were pleasant and free to use. The hotel is also unusually well maintained, with the fort’s historic features restored and preserved, and a gallery/museum about its history that honours the POWs held there. A great stay.

We thought it was excellent until a local who had been imprisoned there told us the site had been a prison and WWII concentration camp. We cancelled our room immediately and wanted to get as far away as possible from a place of torture. How can anyone stay in a former WWII concentration camp? What’s next, Resort Dachau? I wonder whether money has twisted the owners enough to make a hotel in a WWII concentration camp.

Mamula Island is beautiful and very peaceful, with only a few people around, which I really liked. The service overall wasn’t great, though. Omar, Ajsela, and Mohammed were the exceptions: they were kind and attentive, and their hospitality made the experience special.
