Hotel Romanov

Handy spot, close to everything.

We stayed August 26th to September 2nd, when the resort was quiet, the sea was warm, and the weather was lovely. There were thunderstorms, but seeing them at night felt like its own magical show. The balcony view was incredible even though the hotel is on the second line, and we spent a lot of time watching the sunsets and the city lights. Breakfast was at Amadeus restaurant on the first line, with the morning sea and Sveti Stefan peninsula right there. Our room had air conditioning, a refrigerator, and a bathroom, and everything worked properly. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even with reception shared between Azimut and Romanov. Have a nice holiday!

We picked this hotel for being close to the sea and for the photos of its Baroque-style rooms. We wanted somewhere with more atmosphere, but the rooms we found were already decorated in a European style. The photos also showed bathroom toiletries, yet all we got was one tiny bar of soap for two people. The renovation felt slapdash. Some built-in furniture didn’t fit, and the shower door hit the sink, which seems especially awkward for larger guests. The main air conditioning system hasn’t worked for years, and only four rooms have air conditioning with new equipment. We weren’t told any of this when we booked. There was just a fan moving hot air around. Reception told us outright they wouldn’t repair it or move us to another room. Luckily, we had a package tour and the hotel guide helped get the travel agency to move us elsewhere. Still, we had to put up with the heat for two nights, from check-in to check-out. The sea view was nice and breakfast was tasty, but the breakfast credit goes to Amadeus Hotel, not Romanov.

The reception staff were kind, friendly, and helpful, and the hotel is close to the sea. That’s why I’m giving it two stars. The price makes no sense for what you get, and it doesn’t feel like a 4-star hotel. The room was unbearable during the day because the air conditioning didn’t work. The toilet seat was broken, the shower was poor, its hose was damaged, and there was hardly any water pressure. The water was barely warm. Breakfast wasn’t good either, though the seafront location has a great view. Breakfast is provided by another hotel. The website says all-inclusive, but the spa, pool, hammam, and other facilities were either out of order or cost extra. The hotel photos also look very different from reality. It needs renovation or a serious rebrand. I don’t recommend it, and it’s absolutely not worth the money. The staff themselves deserve special thanks, though. They’re not to blame for any of this.
