D&D Apartments Tivat Apart Hotel

The apartment was well equipped and easy to find, and we would have been happy to stay longer than our one night. It’s a great place near Porto Montenegro. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. She didn’t speak English, but her translation device made it easy for us to understand everything.

The hosts were friendly and helpful, arranging transfers, parking for our car, and luggage storage while we were away for several days. The apartment was clean, close to Porto Montenegro, and very good value for money. As long as you don’t expect a five-star hotel, you won’t be disappointed. The one drawback was the light outside the house, which kept switching on and off at night.

The rooms were very clean, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. Battó was especially kind and also acted as our tour guide. The apartment is close to the main sights, so we could walk to most of Tivat’s attractions. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tivat.

After posting my review, I got a reply, so here’s the situation again. We booked a package holiday and never received a contract telling us to report our arrival time. They could have emailed us to ask instead. We also weren’t told about the parking behind the apartments during the 20-minute Google Translate conversation at check-in. That would have been useful, rather than having her come to my door saying the police were coming. For the record, I’d asked the neighbour about parking the previous night, before she shouted at me. About the door cards: apparently we were expected to leave the “do not disturb” cards out all week, so the room wasn’t cleaned. The rubbish piled up, floors weren’t swept or mopped, and we got no fresh bedding or towels the whole week. We assumed our cards had been marked from the start and that we were being punished. You can decide who’s telling the truth. The view is another issue. You can see the bay and mountains off to the right, but there is no bay view straight ahead or to the left. They should show truthful current views instead of leaving guests to look online for recent photos from other travellers. The original photos were very old. A huge shopping centre and apartment block, a casino, and several other apartment blocks are now in front. From our right-hand room, room 9, we could see a mountain in the distance, but there was an ugly, scrappy concrete building next door. Rooms on the other side have even less of a view because there’s a solid barrier between the balconies. Our flight landed around 10pm, so we arrived at midnight. She was frosty, kept tapping her watch and miming sleep, and said we could have been refused entry until 8am, leaving us to sleep in the car. The flight time wasn’t something we could control. We were also told off for not contacting them 24 hours ahead to give our arrival time, but we never got an email asking us to do that. And apparently knocking instead of using the doorbell, which we never saw, was a basic culture issue. We’ve stayed in more than four hotels or apartments a year for 20 years and have never had to put out a sign to get the room cleaned. They didn’t enter our room once during the week. There are a lot of stairs, and parking on the road behind would have reduced the climb to the upper floors, but guests are told not to park there. If you arrive by car, it would also be helpful to know you can drive to the next street to drop people and bags, then return to the parking area. We never saw anyone offer that, just people struggling up the extended first flight. Based on the replies to my review, I expect another accusing email. This wasn’t a friendly place.
