Apartments Zuto

The apartment is wonderful, comfortable, quiet, and fully equipped. The mattresses and pillows are excellent, and there are sofas and a great terrace on the balcony. Its old town location and pirate feel are just right. The hosts are incredibly welcoming too. Hard to beat for the quality and price.

The owners were extremely kind, and Zuto, the owner, speaks German. The kitchen is fully equipped, the place is clean and has air conditioning, and it's quiet at night. With its sea view in the old town, it was perfect for a stay in the old city of Ulcinj.

This was the worst booking.com stay I've ever had. I'm a frequent traveler and have stayed in all kinds of places around the world, but this one was the worst of them all. The internet was a major problem. The listing says wifi is available throughout the house, but in practice it only worked in the owner's room. I had an important online meeting the next day and asked if I could work in that room. The owner wouldn't let me. I couldn't work anywhere in the house. He said the internet was down because of a storm overnight, but we arrived before the storm and there was no connection then either. There was also an issue with the tourist tax. The owner didn't ask for our passports or register us with the Montenegrin tourism system, even after I asked about it. In my understanding, properties that host guests are required by Montenegrin law to register them and pay the local tax. The owner still insisted that we pay it, and wouldn't let us leave without doing so. He took cash only and gave no receipts. Other booking.com reviews had reportedly raised the same tax issue. The owner was extremely impolite. He didn't like my questions about the internet or my request to use another room for work. Around 11:00 PM, he told us we could leave and find somewhere else. The atmosphere was so bad that we packed up, but just as we were leaving he demanded the tax, which I believed he wasn't reporting. When we tried to refuse, he called us names, including “mrš,” an extremely offensive Serbian word. I'd never been spoken to like that at a guest property. I've always loved Montenegro and its hospitable people, but this experience made me feel so unwelcome that I'm unsure about returning soon. I believe this dishonest and disrespectful host shouldn't be allowed to offer accommodation online.

Zuto and his wife Ida welcomed us so warmly and treated us to delicious food and such caring hospitality. We had a wonderful time in Ulcinj's old town. 😊
