Hotel Haus Freiburg

The sea view is beautiful, the room matched the Booking photo, towels were changed daily, and the staff speak English. Those are the positives. Breakfast was included in the room price, but coffee cost extra, and there’s also an extra charge for bringing a dog. The shower had a problem; staff came to fix it every day, but water still ended up everywhere. The hotel owner was very rude and didn’t know how to speak to guests. Because of that unpleasant situation, I sincerely do NOT recommend this hotel. We tried to sort things out, but the hotel cancelled our reservation, so I can’t leave feedback on Booking. After the stay, we were left with a bad feeling.

I do NOT recommend Hotel House Freiburg. The shower didn’t work, and in the hotel’s reply to our first feedback they blamed our dog, though we never bathed it in the shower. The TV table was dangerous: it fell onto our children with the TV, damaging the TV. We reported it right away and said we’d pay for the damage. For two days, the hotel wouldn’t tell us the broken TV’s cost or screen size. Eventually the owner’s worker said it was a 43-inch TV, but they demanded payment for a new 50-inch one, which cost much more. The hotel admitted its mistake and gave us a receipt, which we paid. After that, the owner shouted at us and rushed at us, and the hotel immediately cancelled our stay. Now on Booking they’re demanding full payment again, saying we didn’t come. Are you okay? Do you think that’s normal? We need compensation for the cancelled reservation!

The breakfast was mediocre, and we had to move our cars several times at random hours because the parking garage had limited space. The building really isn’t up to code in that respect. We chose this place for its nice pool and view, though our family is from the area and we could have stayed anywhere. The owner followed us everywhere, which felt very creepy. He told us not to keep getting in and out of the pool because we were wasting water. One morning we woke up and found him in our living room drinking coffee. Very awkward.

We decided to leave the next morning. The breakfast was poor, and when I asked the restaurant worker about eggs, sausages, or other typical breakfast items, she said they had none. I also raised the dirty rooms and the condition of the room we’d taken. She said the cleaner had had an accident, then gave a curt “sorry.” We asked to check out and requested an invoice for the company, but they hesitated. I told them their attitude wasn’t okay and that our time and money couldn’t just absorb these problems. It’s not my responsibility to worry about their lack of a cleaner. I paid for four star service and expected that standard. The bathroom had used towels, no toothbrush and toothpaste kit or hair conditioner, broken and damaged bathrobes, and a miserable shower. These aren’t four star conditions. I said to expect reviews reflecting reality, and they replied that because I’d booked directly by phone, I couldn’t review them on Booking and other reviews didn’t matter to them. For the hotel’s reply: I never complained about the price. I complained about cleanliness, breakfast, their attitude, and calling the hotel four stars when it doesn’t deserve more than two. Their response is just like the service they provide. After 12 days in Split and Dubrovnik, Croatia, we chose to spend our final three days in Montenegro in the sun. I found this four star hotel, and the pictures looked more than okay. We know what four star conditions should be, and this place doesn’t meet even half of them. When we arrived that night, we had to waste time changing rooms: one didn’t lock, and another was dirty. We were too tired, so I chose the one that seemed a little cleaner.
