The hotel occupies only the fifth floor of the building, and there’s an elevator, though the power cuts out daily in the city. Rooms are clean, reception is open 24 hours, and there’s a security guard out front. Two supermarkets are next door, and a few bars and restaurants are a five-minute walk away. Head right out the door to find Le Petite Brasserie, which is great. Beggars can be annoying, but it doesn’t feel dangerous. There are around three banks and many ATMs nearby, and Anaktaly market is within walking distance.

Good location, nice staff, and a clean room with hot water, a fridge and a safe. But having no WiFi for five days was really annoying.

Over the last three years I’ve stayed at more than 20 hotels in Tana, and Hôtel Le Pousse Pousse has given me the best value. It’s right in the heart of Antananarivo, with Super U and Leader Price close by, and Buffet du Jardin is about 100 meters away. The hotel is very affordable, yet it has things I’ve found missing at other budget hotels in Madagascar: a room safe, an outlet in the bathroom, hot shower water, and WiFi that works in the bedroom.

Being on the 5th floor gives the hotel a lovely view over the city, and the Super U supermarket is right next door. It’s also close to all the amenities. The rooms feel small, though maybe the bed is just very big. Good value for money.
