Hotel Lakana Ramena

The place has a relaxed feel, and it’s an easy walk along the beach into town. The accommodation is simple but comfortable, the food was delicious and fresh, and both the staff and owners were super friendly. I had a fantastic time.

The staff were kind and friendly, and the pickup was excellent and right on time. We stayed six nights in one of several comfortable bungalows, with reception, a bar, and a restaurant in the central building. Our bungalow had a living room with a double bed and a bunk bed, a bathroom, and a very spacious shower. Outside, there was a patio with a sofa and loungers. We had breakfast and almost all our dinners at the restaurant, where the food was excellent, a mix of Malagasy and Continental cuisine. The hotel also made a fantastic base for trips around the area, including Amber Mountain, Red and Grey Tsingy, and a boat trip to the Emerald Sea.

The good parts were the location beside the beach, which was very pleasant, other restaurants nearby, and the friendly, helpful attendants. The pool is simple but nice, and the restaurant was just okay, neither good nor bad, with a fair price for Madagascar. The rooms were a nightmare, so I can’t recommend them. The bathrooms open onto the room, there’s no air conditioning, and the heat kept us awake all night. The mattress was awful, and we were left itchy. We don’t know if it was mosquitoes or something else. Without those positives, the experience would have been horrible.
