Libertalia Hotel

The location is amazing, the bungalows are beautiful, and the food is delicious. The reception staff and the whole team will make your vacation special. This is the place to stay when visiting Saint Marie.

We were lucky to see whales passing by in the morning, even before checking in. For the next couple of days, we watched them from a distance, which was amazing. I also appreciate that the hotel works with Cétamada, a conversation organisation focused on protecting whales. Not every hotel does that. The coral reef just beyond the rock at the end of the pier is extraordinary, and our best snorkelling on the island was right there. It's much better than ÎLE AUX NATTES, where the corals are unfortunately dying. I really hope the hotel makes an extra effort to keep its reef alive. We had a great stay at Libertalia. The staff were friendly, the location and setting were extraordinary, and the restaurant food was very good. I liked that the menu changed every day. It did take a long time for the food to arrive, though, so it's mora mora, like most places. Our bungalow faced the pool, where there were always kids. The screaming made it very loud and stressful, and we couldn't relax in front of our place. We were glad to check out and get a bit more peace.

The staff came across as unfriendly and rude. I felt silly even asking for a towel to use the pool. The bridge to the island is broken, though it used to be the standout feature. There are now much better places to stay on st marie for less.

The name Libertalia comes from a mythical pirate utopia, and the hotel carries that adventurous spirit. The island itself was once a refuge for seafarers, and visitors can see the nearby pirate cemetery, enjoy the lush scenery, or look out for migrating humpback whales. Built with local craftsmanship, the hotel's design feels tied to the island's environment and history. On the serene shores of Ile Sainte-Marie, it's a quiet base for both relaxing and exploring.
