Corail Noir Hotel

I spent 14 nights relaxing and diving, and had a great time. The food was varied and delicious, and the staff were friendly. We had lovely conversations, and there was no language problem. They were helpful with tour ideas, including some that weren’t official or were still being arranged. My one small difficulty was allergies. Some menu items didn’t explain their ingredients clearly, and the daily menus got mixed up a couple of times during the week. Thanks for a really lovely stay. I’d recommend it to divers and non-divers alike.

It was a quiet, lovely week with friends, helped by how accommodating and helpful the hotel staff were. There weren’t many English speakers, though I actually enjoyed that. Since it was the end of the tourist season, the place was peaceful. The menu was limited, but everything we ate tasted good.

The director was very accommodating, and we did enjoy our stay. The setting is lovely and quiet, and the private beach on Nosy Sakatia is a real highlight, with nice coral spots to explore. For us as residents, though, the value was poor. The bathrooms have been renovated, but the rooms look much older in person than they do in the photos, and unfortunately the food wasn’t good. I can imagine it working much better for Italians on a package holiday.

We spent five nights here hoping for a relaxing break with good service, but left feeling badly taken advantage of. Although the rooms and grounds were nicely kept, the pool was barely usable and there wasn’t a proper beach at the property. Reaching the private beach required a boat trip to a neighboring island. The hotel seemed oriented toward Italian and French guests, and we felt English-speaking guests were treated less well. The dinner arrangement could make sense as a way to avoid waste: you choose in the morning from a three-course menu. But my wife and I usually ordered just one main course, sometimes a dessert too, and were still charged for all three courses. We found that very cheeky, especially since the order was placed so early. The airport transfer was the most unacceptable part. We arranged it the day before leaving and were quoted 100,000 MGA. At checkout we were charged 236,000 MGA, with no explanation. When we asked, staff said they had no way to know what had happened the previous day. We emailed two weeks ago and still haven’t had a reply. This left us with a very bad impression. We usually see hotels and restaurants as a matter of taste, but we don’t think this treatment can be excused. We’re posting this so other guests can avoid the same experience.
