I chose not to stay after getting a bad feeling while booking in person. The reception is in a fairly modest spot to the left, even though the grand entrance makes it look like you’re heading somewhere impressive. That entrance actually goes to closed conference rooms. The pool looked neglected and sad, and seemed to have been shut for who knows how long. At low tide there’s also a strong seaweed smell, if that’s your thing.

Breakfast is made to order, with things like fried rice, ramen, eggs and toast, plus lighter options such as oatmeal and fruit. The room was nicely furnished, and the resort felt warm and welcoming. The service was terrific too, friendly and attentive throughout.

The room is huge, the view is amazing, and the price is great compared with islands like Pohnpei and Palau. I just arrived, but the big bed already feels so comfy, firm and all. Really glad I picked this place. I’d absolutely stay here again!

The king bed, ocean-facing balcony, working AC, hotel dining and souvenir shop were the good parts. Airport pickup and drop-off were efficient too. The room setup at MIR was nice, but the stay itself was chaotic. We’d arranged island tours and activities months ahead and went over them again on check-in night. Then, on tour day, we were told nothing had been coordinated, despite all the itinerary emails. Luckily, a Japanese boat owner offered to take us around, and that became the trip’s one real highlight. I’m reviewing the Japanese tour provider separately. On the third day we booked a land tour around Majuro through the hotel. Our guide was a nice woman who said it was her first time guiding. She was clearly struggling, though she did her best. A bit of practice and staff training would help a lot. There were basic problems in the room too. The phone and TV remote didn’t work, there was no drinking water, and the pool and gym were closed. We’d been told in advance about the phone issue, and it was also mentioned in the welcome letter, so that one was understandable. But after traveling all the way from the US, finding no water in the room was a shock. We’d have paid for bottled water, though refills would be a nice, more sustainable option for a resort so close to nature. The worst part was the water cutting in and out in the shower and toilet. It stopped while I was showering, and with the phone out of order there was no way to call. I had to towel off with shampoo and soap still in my eyes, go down to the lobby, and ask what was going on. After three trips up and down, the water finally came back. We could have worked around the TV, remote, pool and gym being unavailable, but having no running bathroom water really spoiled things. I emailed management with a detailed incident report before writing this. They said they’d look into it, but I never heard back. I know this is a remote island, but among our four stops, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae and Majuro, we expected Majuro to be the more upscale one. We set our expectations too high. The B&Bs on the farther islands were better than this hundred-room resort. Lesson learned, I’d rather pick a cozy nipa hut where I know what I’m getting than a hotel that can’t provide a basic necessity like water.

Lodging is a serious problem on the island in general. This place at least has a proper bathroom with decent shower taps, and its price seems more reasonable than RRI.
