Accommodation J&T

The one real plus was being within walking distance of the famous church, Fortress, amphitheater and downtown. The rest was a letdown. We paid the full price, then gave the staff our feedback politely, but our Booking reservation was canceled the next morning. It seemed like they might have done that to keep us from leaving a bad review. Finding the place was difficult, and we had to ask people for directions. The halls and stairs were cluttered with couches, chairs, boards and boxes, supposedly because renovations were underway. Black scuffs from bags covered the common areas and our room walls. The bathroom looked decades old, was dirty and was starting to fall apart. For a two-star hotel, I expected more of an apartment feel than a storage unit. The Wi-Fi was too weak for planning the next day's travel, and it kept kicking us off. We also had to give an exact arrival time, which was a hassle after biking 120 km and crossing a border, though we did it to accommodate the host. The beach may be 100 m away in a straight line, but that's not the walking distance. On top of that, there were extra charges: €5 per day for air conditioning, €5 for cleaning and €1.50 per person in local tax. Those add-ons were frustrating.

We paid for two nights, but after the first one my wife and I decided to find somewhere else. We asked to cancel that same night, but weren't allowed to. The room itself had plenty wrong with it: spiders in obvious spots, sheets that seemed unchanged and smelled of the previous guest's perfume, sticky, stained eating utensils, and a toilet seat with dried urine and pubic hair. The staff's response was the worst part. Instead of acknowledging the problems, they spoke aggressively, accused us of cheating on our partners before we explained we were married, and threatened to kick us out as problematic guests at 1 a.m. after we complained. The cleaner claimed in front of us that she'd changed the sheets, though she hadn't, and said the toilet seat was clean when it clearly wasn't. We'd paid in full at check-in, yet our Booking reservation was marked cancelled. I can only assume J&T staff did that to stop us posting an unfavorable review. I'd look elsewhere for a place where guests are treated decently instead of like foreigners to take money from.

The staff were warm and helpful, and the place was modern, spotless and well situated. I only missed having a heater: the nights got really cold, even with two blankets. I'd still recommend a stay here.

The service was poor, and there wasn't any toilet paper in the bathroom. They charge for air conditioning, with the rate listed on the website, but the owner turns it off when you leave the house. Also, two of the rooms share a bathroom. I wouldn't recommend booking here. :(
