Akore Myanmar Life Hotel

The WiFi was painfully slow, and this was one of my worst hotel stays in Yangon. It wasn't worth the price, and I won't return. Reception staff weren't welcoming or helpful, and didn't seem interested in resolving problems. They may have been misleading us: first they said a new policy meant they no longer accepted mobile payments, but once we said we had no cash, they brought out a QR scanner. Then we found used towels still hanging in the wardrobe. I didn't take photos to show it here, but they clearly hadn't checked the room carefully or made sure it was clean.

It's near Yangon International Airport, and breakfast is a buffet with variety. There are two buildings at different price ranges. The rooms in the main building are quite nice and clean, while the front building's rooms look old and dirty and aren't clean enough.

What made Myanmar Life Hotel work for me was the easy airport run. The complimentary shuttle operates around the clock, and the terminal is only a few minutes away, so even a late-night or early-morning flight feels manageable. The hotel sits in the quiet Sawbwagyigon neighborhood, with ten acres of gardens around it. There’s also a pool, and places like Kyauk Daw Kyi, Meilamu Pagoda, and Han Masters Golf Practice Facility are nearby. Inside, the wooden furniture and classic décor feel dated, which makes sense for a hotel founded in 1994. Still, the 100 air-conditioned rooms have useful basics, including a 32-inch satellite TV, kettle, toiletries, and free Wi-Fi. The connection did flicker at times, and some parts of the building show their age. Staff were warm and multilingual, and check-in was smooth. I found the restaurant handy for local and international dishes, with a free breakfast buffet and room service available day and night. Between a swim, a meal, and a shower, I could get ready without worrying about Yangon traffic before my flight. It’s a practical, peaceful stopover, with genuine Myanmar hospitality.

My son got sick the morning after I ordered him noodles there at night. He was vomiting and had watery diarrhea. When I asked the receptionist if she had medicine for him or knew where I could buy some, she ignored me and showed no concern that he might have become ill from the food. Later that day, he accidentally vomited on the floor. The receptionist seemed annoyed and told me to clean it up myself. Where was the humanity?
